R&D for a High Performing Screen Industry Cluster in South Wales

Clwstwr Creadigol

In this project, led by Cardiff University, PDR provides the academic expertise on how the screen industry in Wales can utilise user centred research and development.

Clwstwr is a five year programme to stimulate innovation within the creative industries, leading to new products, services and experiences for screen. In addition to providing funding to support freelances, micro-businesses and SMEs to develop new innovations, Clwstwr supports the ways in which a design approach to innovation can be implemented. PDR is providing this design expertise, running workshops with funded cohorts, and advising and guiding the design process on a one to one basis.

PDR’s Prof. Andrew Walters, Co-Investigator on the Clwstwr project notes, ‘This sustained engagement with creative companies is generating new knowledge on how design can be a driver for innovation within the creative industries, being flexible enough to be relevant to individual freelances through to large production companies.’ The focus of the work is in the implementation of a user-centred approach to innovation, helping these organisations to determine who their end-users are, and what are their needs and values.
